ODU Stifled By JMU in Season Finale, 17-2

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s lacrosse team was unable to get much going offensively on Sunday afternoon at University Park as they fell to James Madison in their season finale, 17-2.

Old Dominion ends the season at 4-13 overall and 2-5 in the CAA. The Lady Monarchs managed just eight shots in the game.

James Madison (11-5, 6-1) scored three quick goals in the first two minutes of the game and never looked back as they took an 8-2 lead into the half. ODU managed just two first half shots but scored on both of them as senior midfielder Jordynn Collins scored in her final game as a Lady Monarch on a feed from junior attacker Emily Austerberry. Freshman midfielder Rachel Shaw also scored in the opening half for the Lady Monarchs.

The Dukes would start out again hot after halftime scoring a pair of quick goals and shutout the Lady Monarchs in the second half, 9-0.

In the game, JMU outshot ODU, 30-8, and had the 15-6 advantage in draw controls. The Dukes were 6-for-9 on free position attempts had the 15-6 edge in groundballs.

Steph Finley, Amy Roguski and Julianne Giles each led the Dukes with three goals apiece as 11 JMU players scored. In goal, Kaci Starkloff had six saves while sophomore goalkeeper Karen Hayde had nine saves for the Lady Monarchs. Junior defender Kallie McCormick caused a pair of turnovers and had two groundballs while senior defender Alexandra Burns had two groundballs in her final game while senior defender Carolyn Burns caused a pair of turnovers in her final contest at ODU.
