Lopez Villa Named to Conference USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - Old Dominion University sophomore men's tennis student-athlete Carlos Lopez Villa was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Lopez Villa holds a 3.75 GPA while majoring in accounting. On the court, he is 18-1 this season and currently ranked No. 114 in the country. The sophomore has defeated three ranked opponents so far this year, including a victory over No. 54 Rafael Aita of UNCW.

Lopez Villa and doubles partner Can Cetinel are 13-5 on the year and have been ranked most of the year.

Honorees must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and have competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled matches. Eight of the 10 honorees boast academic marks better than 3.50.

For the first time ever, the Monarchs will compete in the Conference USA Championships, starting Friday, April 19 when they take on SMU at 11 a.m.
