HEMPSTEAD, NY -The Hofstra Pride (17-19/6-8) swept a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader from Old Dominion (17-16/7-10) today, 8-4 and 5-1.
In game one, the Pride rallied for three runs in the seventh led by a two-run RBI hit from Matt Reistetter, to take a 6-4 lead. Hofstra then added two more runs in the eighth on a two-run RBI double by Austin Nyman.
ODU scored two in the top of the first as Josh Eldridge scored from first on a Hofstra error and Ben Slaton scored on an RBI single by Austin McGowan.
The Monarchs took a 4-2 lead in the third inning on RBI double by Ben Slaton which brought home Eldridge, followed by an RBI groundout by Josiah Burney which brought home Slaton.
In the sixth inning Hofrstra's Chris Nardo's RBI groundout brought home Jared Hammer to cut ODU's lead to 4-3. Eldridge and Slaton led ODU with two hits each, while Reistetter led Hofstra with three hits on the day.
In game two, Hofstra took the early lead in the second on a run scoring double by Joe Perez which scored Hared Hammer. ODU tied the game in the third on a sacrifice fly RBI by Josh Eldridge which brought home Freshman Brian Beard.
The Pride retook the lead in the fifth on Brent Hall's sacrifice fly to left which plated Perez. They then added three insurance runs on an RBI double by Robbie Cafiero which knocked in Austin Nyman, followed by a two-run homer by Kenny Jackson in the eighth.
The third and final game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
