ODU head coach Chris Finwood recaps the Monarchs 4-0 record (6-3 overall) last weekend as well as comments on the upcoming games at Richmond on tuesday, at home against East Carolina on Wednesday, and three-game opening Colonial Athletic series at home against Northeastern.
Through nine games, junior Ben Verlander leads the team with a .412 batting average, and a .647 slugging percentage, while designated hitter Austin McGowan is hitting .393 with a team best eight runs scored, 11 hits and a .536 slugging percentage. Sophomore Josh Eldridge leads the team with 10 RBI.
On the mound, Brad Gero is 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA, followed by senior Erick Baker at 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA. Dean Ali is 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 15 innings of work. Ryan Yarbrough is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA. Last week, ODU defeated VMI and swept a three-game series with Temple.
