SKILLMAN, N.J. - Old Dominion University men's tennis faced a pair of top-55 opponents this past weekend and fell five spots in the national poll to No. 60, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Tuesday.
Old Dominion (11-5) fell in a hard-fought 4-3 match to current No. 51 Yale and dropped a 5-0 decision to current No. 52 Virginia Tech while besting Illinois State, 7-0 last Friday.
Prior to the week, the Monarchs had won six-straight matches.
ODU is led by sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa, who is 15-1 on the season and No. 120 in the country. Lopez Villa has defeated a pair of ranked foes on the year and has twice been named Conference USA men's tennis Athlete of the Week.
Junior Wesley Barrett is second on the team with a 10-5 mark while senior Albert Ochagavia is third on the team with nine wins.
Lopez Villa and doubles partner, Can Cetinel are 12-3 and ranked No. 48 while Barrett and Tim Schweig are 11-3 this season.
ODU is back in action on Saturday, March 31 when they face Delaware.
