HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS,FL--Sophomore Jamison Randall, and freshman Ashton Newsom finished in the top 20 to help lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to fifth place in the Mission Inn Collegiate Golf Tournament at the Mission Inn Resort.
The Monarchs shot 295 as a team today to move up a spot from yesterday with a final 54-hole total of 887. Indiana won the tournament by two strokes over Purdue and Virginia Tech who tied for second. Georgia State placed fourth at 875.
Randall fired a 73 today for his 54-hole score of 218 to move up from 13th to tie Adam Schenk of Purdue and Corey Aiedonis of Indiana for eighth place. Newsom tied for 16th with a 222 54-hole score. Thomas Wilde tied for 23rd at 223 after a 75 today.
Jonathan Grey of Georgia State was the tournament medalist at 70-71-67=208, winning by five strokes over Brant Peaper (72-72-69=213) of Indiana. Newsom tied for 16th after shooting a 74 (73-75-74=222) in today's finals round.
In Tournament statistics, Wilde was fifth in par 3 scoring at 2.92, while Jamison Randall and Ashton Newsom tied for eighth in par 4 scoring at 4.10. Wilde tied for second in total pars with 39 followed by Newsom, Randall and Dawson with 38. ODU returns to action on March 24-25 at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
