NORFOLK, Va. - No. 67 Old Dominion University men's tennis earned the doubles point but dropped 4-of-6 singles matches to fall to George Washington 4-3 Friday afternoon in the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.

In the first match of the year the Monarchs were ranked, ODU came out and earned a hard fought doubles point as No. 23 Can Cetinel and Carlos Lopez Villa were 8-7 winners at No. 1 and Jonas Kuwert also won 8-7 at No. 2 doubles.

George Washington came out strong in singles, as No. 96 Nikita Fomin defeated Albert Ochagavia at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3 and Ulrik Thomsen beat Zvonimir Podvinski 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Alexadner van Gils was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 4 and Danil Zelenkov clinched the win for the Colonials with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa stayed unbeaten in singles at 7-0, with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 triumph over Francisco Dias at No. 1. The victory is the second over a ranked foe for Lopez Villa.

Junior Wesley Barrett gave the Monarchs another win in singles with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win over Leonardi Lapentti at No. 5.
