MONARCH MEDIA / 2013 ODU LACROSSE SEASON PREVIEW
NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team will open their 2013 schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. at No. 19 Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md.
The Lady Monarchs return five starters and 10 letterwinners from a year ago under second year head coach Heather Holt. ODU starts season with four of their first five games away from home and welcomes in eight newcomers this season. The Feb. 16 start is the earliest start date that Old Dominion has had as they will take part in 19 games this season.
Senior co-captain Shelby Davis was picked to preseason All-CAA squad last month. Davis has started in all 47 games of her career with the Lady Monarchs and will anchor a veteran midfield and defensive unit along with fellow senior co-captain Jordynn Collins.
Also joining Collins and Davis as seniors on this year's squad are defenders Alexandra Burns and Carolyn Burns along with midfielder Olivia Linehan and attacker Meredith Rogers.
Johns Hopkins is coming off a 9-9 season in 2012 in which they beat five nationally ranked opponents and welcomes 12 newcomers to their 30-player roster this season. Head Coach Janine Tucker is in her 20th season at the helm of the JHU program.
Junior attacker Taylor D'Amore was the Blue Jays leader on offense a year ago with 33 goals and 40 assists while junior Sammy Cermack added 24 goals and 11 assists. Both of JHU's goalies return in sophomore KC Emerson and senior captain Cosette Larash.
Saturday will be the first ever meeting between ODU and JHU.
