NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa earned the first singles ranking of his career while the ODU doubles teams of Can Cetinel and Lopez Villa and Wesley Barrett also earned rankings in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
A sophomore from Madrid, Spain, Lopez Villa is No. 112 in the ITA singles poll. He is 8-0 on the year and has defeated two ranked opponents on the year. The two-time Conference USA Athlete of the Week, Lopez Villa started the season with a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 32 Juan Spir of Georgia Tech and knocked off No. 76 Francisco Dias of George Washington last week, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Lopez Villa and Cetinel are 5-2 on the season playing at No. 1 doubles and are ranked No. 30.
Barrett and Schweig are 6-2 on the season playing primarily at No. 3, and pulled a No. 58 doubles ranking.
Old Dominion is back in action this weekend when they take on Radford on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Navy on Sunday at 11 a.m.
