IRVING, Texas - For the second time this year, Old Dominion University sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa was named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the C-USA announced on Tuesday.
Lopez Villa went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles action. He was 2-0 in singles, earning his second win over a ranked foe with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory over No. 76 Francisco Dias of George Washington. He made short work of Temple's Kacper Rams in a 6-1, 6-0 win on Sunday to move to 8-0 on the year.
In doubles, Lopez Villa and partner Can Cetinel started the week with an 8-7 victory against George Washington and dropped Temple 8-0 on Sunday. The duo is 5-2 so far this season.
Lopez Villa and the Monarchs are back in action this weekend at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center when they host Radford on Saturday at 10 a.m.
