NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University men's tennis improved to 3-1 with their third-straight win on Sunday, defeating UMBC 6-1 at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
The Monarchs got off to a strong start, earning the doubles point as Jonas Kuwert were dominant in an 8-0 victory at No. 2 while No. 34 Wesley Barrett clinched the point with an 8-7 victory at No. 3.
Zvonimir Podvinski got ODU on the board in singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 while Ochagavia earned a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2.
Carlos Lopez Villa improved to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1.
Jonas Kuwert fought back to win 5-7, 7-6 (10-5).
Alex Drean picked up UMBC's lone win over Dante Terenzio at No. 4, 7-5, 6-7 (1-0).
ODU goes on the road next weekend to take on a pair of ranked oppoennts when they travel to Dartmouth and Harvard.
