HARRISONBURG, Va. -HARRISONBURG, VA--James Madison defeated Old Dominion, 56-46 Saturday afternoon as they went on a 19-9 run. Monarch freshman Keenan Palmore led with 13 points, followed by fellow freshman Aaron Bacote with 10 points. JMU improves to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the CAA, while ODU drops to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in the CAA. In all, there were six ties and five lead changes.
Keenan Palmore's basket with 11:30 left in the game tied the contest up at 37-37. JMU's Ron Curry scored the duke's next four points to go up 41-37. A Palmore free throw, cut it to 41-38, but Charles Cooke nails a trey and Devon Moore scored on a layup to put JMU up 46-38.
Andre Nation led JMU with 14 points and seven rebounds, followed by Ron Curry with 12 and devon Moore with 10 points. JMU outrebounded ODU, 40-34 and shot .408 (20-49) from the field to ODU's .320 (16-50).
Besides Palmore and Bacote who scored in double figures, DeShawn Painter added nine points and Nine rebounds, followed by Richard Ross with points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. Donte Hill added five points and seven Rebounds.
The win for JMU was its first over the Monarchs in Harrisonburg since 2006-07.
ODU freshman Palmore leads the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game inseven CAA games thus far, while DeShawn Painters is at 10.1 points and 7.9 rebounds.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night at home against Towson in a 7 p.m. contest at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
