NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's basketball team fell to Delaware on Sunday afternoon in CAA action at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, 63-46.

In a battle of the two teams with the best records in the CAA so far this season, Delaware led from the start but ODU was able to close the gap on multiple occasions late in the first half and early in the second half by cutting down the margin to as few as two points.

The Blue Hens however, were able to withstand the ODU run and used a 13-1 run midway through the second half to hold onto a double-digit lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. The Blue Hens were able to take advantage on the boards with a 59-35 rebounding margin, including 22 offensive rebounds.

Sophomore Shae Kelley recorded her third career double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three steals and an assist but the Lady Monarchs were held to a season-low 27 percent from the floor (17-63).

Delaware (11-3, 2-0) won their 21st consecutive CAA regular season contest dating back to 2011. Unanimous preseason All-American and reigning CAA Player of the Year Elena Delle Donne scored a game-high 28 points to go along with 13 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and an assist.

Sophomore Ashley Betz-White added 13 points, two assists and a steal for ODU while junior Michelle Brandao recorded her first career points as a Lady Monarchs with five points in the first half. The Lady Monarchs forced 18 Blue Hen turnovers while committing just 10. The ODU bench outscored Delaware, 14-4, while the Blue Hens held the advantage in points in the paint, 31-22.

Akeema Richards added 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block for the Blue Hens, who shot 41.3 percent in the game (26-63).

Old Dominion hits the road for three of their next four games beginning on Thursday when they travel to UNC Wilmington for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Seahawks.
