NORFOLK, Va. - JoNiquia Guilford led Old Dominion with 13 points but it was not enough as VCU defeated the Lady Monarchs in front of 4,725 in the 10th Annual Hoops for the Cure contest.

Old Dominion grabbed a two-point halftime lead on a driving layup from Brianca Washington go into the break with a 26-24 lead but VCU came out of the second half on a 9-4 stretch to take a 35-30 lead.

ODU stormed right back as JoNiquia Guilford made a steal and layup and also drove for another to give ODU the lead back at 36-35.

The lead changed hands six times in the following three minutes as JoNiquia Guilford gave the Lady Monarchs the 43-42 edge before Courtney Hurt hit a jumper to put the Rams back on top by one.

The Rams went on an 11-4 run to grab a 57-47 lead and stretched the lead to as much as 15.

The Rams got off to a strong start jumping out to an 13-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. Chelsea Snyder and Andrea Barbour each had four points during the start.

ODU cut the lead to 16-8 as Ashley Betz-White and Myeisha Hall hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 16-8.

The Lady Monarchs went on a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the game on a jumper from Tia Lewis. Hall connected on a three-point play while Jackie Cook hit a three-pointer to tie the score before Lewis' jumper gave ODU a 24-22 lead.

After the Rams tied the score on a bucket by Snyder, Brianca Washington drove the lane and hit a layup with 30 seconds to go in the half to give ODU a 26-24 lead at the break. Old Dominion ended the half on a 14-4 run.

Guilford added four rebounds and three steals to go along with her 13 points, all of which came in the second half.

Jackie Cook added 12 points and seven rebounds while Washington set a career-high with 12 minutes played and tied career-highs with four points and one assist.

Old Dominion shot a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line.

Hurt led the Rams with 21 points and 20 rebounds while Barbour added 16 points and Snyder tied her career-high with 10.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 23 when they host Northeastern at 7 p.m.
