NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's basketball team rode sophomore Shae Kelley's second career double-double along with an 11-0 run to start the second half to defeat South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in their final game of 2012.

After holding just a five point halftime lead, Kelley took over in the second half as she scored 20 points while putting up career highs of 14 rebounds and four blocks to power the Lady Monarchs.

Kelley scored 14 points and gathered eight rebounds in the second half and did not commit a single turnover in the game while senior Jackie Cook scored 10 of her 16 points after half as she scored in double digits for the 10th time in 11 games.

After holding a 34-29 advantage at half, ODU went on a quick run to open the lead up to as many as 25 points midway into the second half as the Lady Monarchs shot 48.5 percent from the field after halftime.

ODU raked in a season-high 48 rebounds and scored 49 points in the paint against South Carolina State (8-4) while earning a 21-3 advantage in fast break points. The Lady Monarchs got points from 10 of the 11 players that saw action on Saturday.

Senior Mairi Buchan grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in addition to six points and four assists while redshirt junior Rebecca Allison had a career-high six assists and scored nine points. Freshman Galaisha Goodhope added eight points off the bench while junior Stephanie Gardner added nine points, two assists and two rebounds to help ODU move to 9-2 for the first time since the 1998-99 season.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Tiara Knotts hit four three-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points while gather nine rebounds and four steals. Trinese Fox had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds as South Carolina State tallied 53 rebounds in the contest.

Old Dominion wraps up non-conference action and opens 2013 on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 3 p.m. against Pittsburgh in the Ted Constant Convocation Center as part of a doubleheader with the men's team who opens CAA home action against James Madison at 7 p.m.
