RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman guard LaQuanda Younger has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday it was announced by the league office.
Younger (Newport News, Va.) registered a season-high 19 minutes of game action off the bench on Friday in Old Dominions’ 59-33 victory on Education Day over North Carolina Central to improve to 6-1 on the season.
In the second half, Younger nailed a pair of three-pointers and finished with a season-best eight points on the day to go along with her first two collegiate blocks and a rebound. She was 3-for-7 from the field and 2-for-5 from behind the arc in the Lady Monarchs’ win.
Younger becomes the second Lady Monarch to win an award from the CAA this season as senior Jackie Cook was named the Player of the Week back on Nov. 19.
Old Dominion returns to action after breaking for finals this week at the World Vision Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8:30 p.m. (ET) when they face tournament host UNLV.
