NORFOLK, Va. - After a tie game midway through the first half, the Old Dominion University women's basketball team went on a 28-6 run stretching into the second half to pull away from North Carolina Central on Friday morning in front of a season-best 5,287 fans at the Ted Constant Convocation Center for a 59-33 victory.

Hosting ODU's second annual Education Day game, over 3,000 students from local elementary schools attended the game to watch the Lady Monarchs improve to 6-1 on the season.

Old Dominion raced out to a 10-4 lead before struggling offensively midway through the first half, as North Carolina Central (0-10) able to tie the game at 13 at the 10:38 mark. Several key reserves sparked the Lady Monarchs' run then as redshirt junior Becca Allison scored a season-high 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench while freshman LaQuanda Younger registered a career-high eight points in 19 minutes of play.

ODU's bench outscored North Carolina Central by a margin of 26-0 as the Lady Monarchs scored 26 points off 27 Lady Eagle turnovers in the game. Old Dominion also took advantage in transition as they held an 18-2 advantage in fast break points.

Senior Jackie Cook found her groove after intermission scoring 11 of her game-high 18 points after halftime. It is the sixth time in seven games this season that Cook has scored in double-figures. Sophomore Ashley Betz-White registered a career-high six steals while redshirt senior Mairi Buchan was one assist short of her career best as she had a game-high six.

Chasidy Williams led the NCCU effort with a double-double as she collected 11 rebounds and scored a team-high 17 points to go along with seven steals for the Lady Eagles.

Old Dominion now breaks for 12 days during final exams and returns to action at the World Vision Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8:30 p.m. (ET) when they face tournament host UNLV.
