NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Monarch, Sidni Hoxha was named the CAA Swimmer of the Week after he helped lead the Monarchs to two wins over the weekend.

The Old Dominion men's swimming and diving team beat George Mason (222.00-131.00) and Towson (233.00-118.00) on Nov. 2-3 at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool in the ODU Student Recreation Center.

Hoxha played a major role in the Monarch's clean sweep. The junior from Albania won the men's 200 yard freestyle (1:42.27), while easily claiming victory in the 100 yard freestyle (45.47), and finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (20.51). Hoxha also won the 200 yard freestyle relay along with Edward Hubert, Ben Leach, and Ben Hansen (1:25:16).

The six foot three Albanian has his name all over the Old Dominion record book as he currently holds the school record in the 50 yard freestyle. He has the second fastest time in the 100 yard freestyle and seventh quickest finish in the 200 yard freestyle.

Hoxha has been a member of three teams that stand in first on the school's all-time top times list for the 200 yard free relay, along with the 200 and the 400 yard medley relays. This Monarch standout also was part of the team that currently ranks second in school history for the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Hoxha has competed in the Olympics twice, first in Beijing in 2008 followed by his most recent involvement in the 2012 Olympics in London. Hoxha opened some eyes at the London Olympics, capturing the top time in his heat and finished 37th overall.

In 2010 Hoxha was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and was crowned CAA champion in the 50 yard freestyle. He posted a time of 19.71 in the 50 yard freestyle, as he is only the second Monarch ever to come in under the 20 second mark.

Old Dominion will be back in action on Nov. 16-18 in Chapel Hill, N.C. where they will be competing in the Nike Cup.
