Richard Ross sat outside the Old Dominion weight room and unwrapped the bandage over the splint that immobilizes his fractured right wrist.
"I just try to pretend it's not there," he said.
He's done a pretty good job. Despite playing with a contraption on his shooting hand that looks like an oven mitt with the fingers cut out, the 6-foot-7 forward leads the Monarchs in field-goal percentage and is the team's best offensive rebounder on a per-minute basis.
More significantly, on a team whose players are still finding their roles, he knows precisely where he fits.
