NORFOLK, Va. – Three members of the Old Dominion University field hockey team were named to the 2012 WomensFieldHockey.com All-American teams it was announced on Monday.
Named on the Second Team All-American list for ODU is junior midfielder Kati Nearhouse and redshirt junior back Christy Longacre while freshman forward Sarah Breen was selected to the All-Rookie Team. Last week, all three were selected to the NFHCA South First Team All-Region squad.
Nearhouse was on the All-American Third Team in 2011 and this season she scored a pair of goals to go along with two assists in 2012. The team co-captain was first team All-CAA this year and is a member of the U-21 U.S. National team.
Longacre became the seventh ODU player to be named CAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and the third straight year the honor has gone to a Lady Monarch. She was a key component in a Lady Monarchs’ defense that allowed just seven goals in seven CAA contests and recorded two shutouts. Longacre ranks collected three defensive saves while also making her presence felt on offense on penalty corners, ranking third on the team with 10 goals while adding four assists.
Breen was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team and was All-CAA First Team in 2012 after scoring 12 goals and picking up eight assists in her rookie campaign. Breen had four game-winning goals on the season.
