NORFOLK, VA-- The 15th ranked Monarchs of Old Dominion (10-2-2/4-2-2) travel toHempstead, NY for a CAA match up against the Pride of Hofstra (10-5-1/4-4) Saturadaynight.
ODU ranks 15 by the NSCAA/Coaches and Soccer Times. The Monarchs are 16th by CollegeSoccer News and 20th by Soccer America.
The series between the two is tied at 7-7-2 since 1992. Last year, ODU defeatedHofstra, 4-1 at the ODU Soccer Complex. Hofstra's last win over the Monarchs was in 2010, 1-0. The two teams fought to a 0-0 tied in 2009.
Sophomore forward Maid Memic leads the Pride with eight goals, four assists and20 total points, while Joseph Holland, a freshman is second with six goals. Juniormidfielder Chris Griebsch leads the CAA in assists with nine. Hofstra has fiveshutouts this season, using two goalkeepers, Roberto Pellegrini and Adam Janowski.Janowski had seven saves in Hofstra's 2-1 home loss to Drexel Wednesday night.
ODU has now won two straight, beating Georgia State Wednesday night in Atlanta, 1-0on a goal by senior co-captain Chris Harmon, his ninth of the season. He alsoleads the team with four game winners.
Five Monarchs have two or more goals thus far this season and five have three ormore assists. Hopkinson leads the team with 10 goals, five assists for 25 totalpoints, followed by Harmon with nine goals, five assists for 23 points. Hopkinson,Harmon and senior All-American Yannick Smith each have five assists.
Between the pipes, senior Victor Francoz has a 0.97 goals against average alongwith 53 saves, and five solo shuts.
ODU returns home for the regular season finale on Wednesday night against Northeastern.
