NORFOLK, Va. - The final regular season home game for head coach Beth Anders and senior night for four Lady Monarchs was spoiled on Friday by No. 1 North Carolina in a 3-1 defeat at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Stout defense on both sides dominated the first half as neither team got much going offensively until just before halftime when North Carolina's Charlotte Craddock intercepted a pass as the ODU defense attempted to clear out a shot on penalty corner and roped the shot past redshirt senior Marla Petriello in the 31st minute to give UNC the 1-0 lead going into the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Old Dominion (13-5) was able to find the equalizer as sophomore Rosario Villagra put back a shot off the stick of freshman Sarah Breen. North Carolina (17-1) wasted little time responding as Craddock raced down the sideline and lined a perfect pass across the middle to a wide open Loren Shealy less than two minutes later to put the Tar Heels back on top.

UNC scored again in the 54th minute when Caitlin Van Sickle blasted a shot off the left side from 20 yards out on a pass from Katie Ardrey to make it 3-1.

North Carolina had a 16-7 edge in shots and in penalty corners, 8-5. Petriello had six saves on the night while UNC goalie Sassi Ammer had four saves.

Seniors Julie Hodge, Kimberly Oakes, Marla Petriello and Maartje van Rijswijk along with Anders were all honored after the game on Friday with a brief ceremony.

**Old Dominion closes out the regular season on Saturday night in a CAA contest against William and Mary at 6 p.m. in Williamsburg. Please note the game has been moved from Sunday at noon to Saturday evening due to the impending weather effects from Hurricane Sandy.**
