NORFOLK, Va. – The ninth-ranked Old Dominion University field hockey team hosts No. 1 North Carolina on Senior Night on Friday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex at 5 p.m. in the final regular season home game of head coach Beth Anders' legendary career.

Wednesday's game was the 700th career game on the sideline for head coach Beth Anders who is set to retire at the end of the 2012 season. She has amassed a career record of 559-134-7 (.803) and won an NCAA-record nine national titles. Anders has guided ODU to an NCAA-record 17 championship round appearances and her 559 wins are the most in NCAA Division I history. Old Dominion has made the NCAA Tournament in 27 of her 29 seasons as head coach and Anders has seen 16 of her former players go on to play in five Olympic games.
SENIOR DAY
After Friday's game, the four senior Lady Monarchs will be honored as back Julie Hodge, forward Kimberly Oakes, goalkeeper Marla Petriello and forward Maartje van Rijswijk play in their final home contest of the regular season.
LAST TIME OUT
Old Dominion won a thriller over William and Mary in overtime on Wednesday night in Norfolk, 3-2, in a non-conference match. The two teams meet again on Sunday in Williamsburg in the CAA contest. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Goff scored for ODU in the first half off a rebound and sophomore Rosario Villagra blasted one 36 seconds into the second half from redshirt junior Danielle Clutter for scoring in regulation.
In overtime, freshman Emily Harting scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke after Villagra was taken down in the circle by the Tribe goalie to give ODU the win in the first overtime game of the year for the Lady Monarchs.
RANKED LADY MONARCHS
ODU is ranked ninth in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Lady Monarchs have been ranked in the top-10 for 19 consecutive weeks dating back to last season.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
The Lady Monarchs continue to distribute the ball well offensively this season with 12 different players having scored a goal. Freshman Sarah Breen leads the team with 12 goals while Villagra has added 10 and redshirt junior co-catain Christy Longacre has added nine. Sophomore Kelsey Smither leads the team with 10 assists with Villagra adding eight assists. In goal, redshirt senior Marla Petriello has allowed 21 goals in 13 starts and has collected 46 saves this season while posting a goals against average of 1.67.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina (16-1) is coming off a thrilling 4-3 overtime win at No. 6 Maryland last weekend to clinch the top seed in the ACC Tournament. The Tar Heels' lone loss this season came at Syracuse in overtime in early September, 1-0. UNC is led by junior Kelsey Kolojejchick's 12 goals and 19 assists while sophomore Charlotte Craddock had added 15 goals and three assists and senior Katie Ardey has 14 assists and two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Sassi Ammer has 48 saves and a goals against average of 1.18.
North Carolina holds the slim edge in the all-time series, 37-34-2. UNC has won the last two meetings as they defeated ODU in Chapel Hill on Sept. 14, 3-2 and in overtime last season in Norfolk, 3-2, on Oct. 30.
