Randall, Newsom, and Dawson Lead ODU To Third At OBX Collegiate

POWELLS'S POINT, NC--ODU Sophomore golfer Jamison Randall (Cumberland, RI.), freshmanAshton Newsom (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior John Dawson (Chesapeake, VA.) finished in the top 15 to lead the Monarchs to third place at the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate at thepar 72-6550 yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.

Georgia Southern captured the team title by 12 strokes with a 10 under par 854 score for 54 holes. Richmond was second at 866 followed by the Monarchs at 868. A total of 18 teams competed.

Radford's Weston Eklund (73-64-70=207) and Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes (66-71-70=207) tied for first with a nine-under par 207. Wolfes took home the trophy with a one-hole playoff win. The University of Richmond's Daniel Walker turned in the best round of the day with a 65 to finish third at 209.

ODU's Randall tied for sixth with a -2 under par 214, while Newsom finished at 217 in a tie for 10th, Dawson tied for 15th at 218 and senior Thomas Wilde tied for 18th with a 219.

Eklund of Radford led the field with the best par 3 scoring at 2.80 (-3), while ODU's Wilde was tied for Second at 2.87 (-2). Eklund, along with Richmond's Daniel Walker and Georgia Southern's Charlie Martin tied for the most birdies with 17 each. There was also a three way tie for pars between Longwood's Dylan Jensen, VCU's Matt Ball, Jr. and Richmond's Colin McDade with 40. ODU's Wilde Tied for second with 38.

Elon's Stuart Kaufman had the most eagles in the tournament with three, including two on the first day of competition.

This was the 33rd year of the tournament in the Outerbanks of North Carolina and the third year at Kilmarlic.
