POWELLS POINT, NC--Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes fired a first round six-under 66to lead the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate and the Eagles of Georgia Southern are in first place after shooting 290 by five strokes over second place ODU and Richmond who are at 295.
Leading the way for the Monarchs is sophomore Jamison Randall (Cumberland, RI.) who shot 70 in the first round followed by freshman Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA.) who shot 73.
Wolfes leads the event by three strokes over Stuart Kaufman of Elon and Jake McNulty of VCU, both shot 69, followed by ODU's Randall at 70, the Ben Feld of Drexel and Colin McDade of Richmond are at 71.
One of the highlights of the tournament's first day was Elon Stuart Kaufman who had two eagles on the day on No. 10 and 16. ODU's Thomas Wilde led the event with 16 pars, while Georgia Southern's Wolfes led with seven birdies, followed by ODU's Randall with six.
Georgia Southern entered the tournament fresh off it's win last week at the AutoTrader.com Tournament in Atlanta ranks 56th nationally by Golfstat.
There are 36 more holes in the tournament with 18 on both Monday and Tuesday at the par 72-6535 yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.
