Cook Sets Career-High as ODU Tops Northeastern, 73-70

BOSTON, Mass. - Jackie Cook notched a career-high 19 points and Old Dominion University women's basketball collected a 73-70 win over Northeastern Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs shot 46 percent from the floor and were 11-of-23 from three-point range, led by Myeisha Hall who knocked down five treys. The 11 three's were one off the school record set in 1997 vs. UNCW.

Holding onto a two-point lead with two minutes to play, Jackie Cook nailed a three-pointer to give Old Dominion (5-10, 2-1) a 72-67 lead. Northeastern cut the lead to three with 51 seconds left but Deanna Kerkhof's last second attempt came up short as the Lady Monarchs grabbed a 73-70 win.

Dani Iervolino hit a three to put NU back within two, but Tiffany Minor added a free throw to give ODU a 73-70 lead.

ODU took a seven-point lead on a pair of free throws from Lewis at the 17 minute mark, but Deanna Kerkhof hit back-to-back three's to pull NU within one at 47-46.

The Lady Monarchs gave up the lead for the first time since early in the first half as Tunstull hit two foul shots, but ODU came right back as Mairi Buchan hit a short jumper and Jackie Cook hit a three to give ODU a 52-50 advanatge.

Northeastern went on a 10-3 run to take a 58-55 lead but Myeisha Hall hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 58.

Hall put ODU back up with another three-pointer and Buchan added a jumper to give ODU a 65-60 lead, but Kerkhof added a three-pointer to make the lead 65-63.

Northeastern scored the first nine points of the game, as Tunstull added three points and Jamie Conroy hit a three to make it 9-0. JoNiquia Guilford got ODU on the board at the 15:38 mark to break the drought.

The Lady Monarchs stormed back with a 12-0 run to take a 24-17 lead. Hall sparked the run with a pair of three-pointers and Lewis had six points as well. A'lece Mark hit a layup to stop the run for the Huskies.

Northeastern cut the lead to just one at 35-34 on a jumper from Tunstull, but ODU pushed the lead back to four on a jumper from Becca Allison and a free throw from Lewis. Deanna Kerkhof hit a three to knock the lead back to one but Lewis hit a jumper in the lane with just two seconds left to give ODU a 42-39 halftime lead.

Cook added three assists to go with her 19 points while Lewis, who battled foul trouble in the second half, finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Hall also delivered a career-high with 15 points, all on three-pointers.

ODU dished out a season-best 24 assists, six from Buchan and five from Ashley Betz-White.

Kerkhof led NU with 19 points, 13 coming in the second half. Jewel Tunstull had 17 points and 11 boards while Mark added 15 points.

ODU is back in action on Wednesday when they take on VCU at 7 p.m.
