ODU Falls to UNCW, 76-54

NORFOLK, Va. - Abria Trice scored a game-high 20 points and UNCW outscored Old Dominion University women's basketball by 17 in the second half to take a 76-54 win over the Lady Monarchs Sunday afternoon.

With the win, UNCW won their third-straight game to move to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the CAA while ODU drops to 6-13 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Tia Lewis led the Lady Monarchs with 16 points, moving into 16th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,451 points. Lewis passes Shareese Grant.

UNCW took a 29-24 lead into halftime but pushed the lead to 10 just five minutes into the second half on a three-pointer from Jessica Freeman.

UNCW went on an 13-4 run to take a 51-33 lead with 12:30 remaining as Alisha Andrews and Freeman hit consecutive three's.

ODU cut the lead to three early in the second half on a bucket by Lewis but the Seahawks went on an 8-2 spurt to take a 38-29 lead.

Old Dominion made six of their first seven shots to grab a 14-9 lead but went scoreless for the next seven minutes as UNCW went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-14 lead midway through the first half. Lewis made a short jumper to stop the run.

The Seahawks pushed the lead to seven at 26-19 when Jessica Freeman hit back-to-back jumpers. Ashley Betz-White hit three-straight foul shots to cut the lead to four but Karneisha Garrett hit a three to move the lead back to seven.

Shakeva Richards hit a short turn around jumper with 10 seconds left in the half to cut the UNCW lead to 29-24 at halftime.

Trice led the Seahawks with her 20 points and also pulled down nine rebounds. Andrews and Freeman had 16 points apiece.

Cook added 11 points and five assists for ODU while Mairi Buchan chipped in eight.

ODU is back in action Thursday, Jan. 26 at William and Mary. The game will start at 7 p.m.
