Taylor Heinicke Named CAA Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. - Sophomore quarterback Taylor Heinicke has earned his third Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week honor following his record breaking performance Saturday in the Football Monarchs 64-61 win over New Hampshire.

Heinicke set a slew of records completing 55-of-79 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns to go with 61 rushing yards and a score on the ground.

With Saturday's performance, the Monarch sophomore now owns Division I records with 791 yards of total offense and 730 yards passing while coming up just six yards shy of breaking college football's slngle-game passing mark. Heinicke also established new school records with 79 pass attempts, 55 completions, 730 passing yards and 791 total offensive yards.

This is Heinicke's sixth CAA weekly award having won Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week One against Duquesne having accounted for 530 of Old Dominion's 723 total yards including 492 passing yards and four touchdowns on 41 completionsand Week Three with 486 passing yards and a school record seven touchdown passes in a win over Campbell. Heinicke also won CAA Rookie of the Week three times in 2011 following the Monarchs' contests with UMass, James Madison, and Richmond.

Heinicke is currently leading the nation in total offense (529.00) and fifth in passing efficiency (173.92).

The ODU Football Monarchs (4-0) have their first CAA road contest on Saturday, September 22nd as they travel up I-64 to meet the University of Richmond at 3:30 p.m.
