NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion and Liberty played a tight on a humid Sunday afternoon but Liberty was awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute and Lauren Stell connected for the only goal of the day to give Liberty a 1-0 victory.

Liberty improved to 4-2 on the year while ODU drops to 1-4.

The winning penalty kick was set up after the ball was getting kicked around the box and ended up with a Liberty player who was taken down by an ODU defender.

ODU had a solid opportunity late in the first half as Alexis Thomas sent a through ball to Jordan Jones off the right hand side but her shot was stopped by Karen Blocker.

Just before that Liberty's Crystal Elmers fired a shot from 20 yards out that Laura Bush knocked away.

With just six minutes left in the match, ODU had a good chance as Taylor Mertz dribbled down the left side and sent a pass to the center to Kelly Evans who fired a shot to the far post that Blocker just got enough of to keep ODU off the board.

Bush made nine saves in goal for ODU while Blocked made three stops for the Flames.

ODU is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 9 when they host VMI at 5 p.m.
