DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 8 Old Dominion University field hockey team bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over No. 17 Duke at Jack Katz Stadium.

Old Dominion (4-3) got on the board first as freshman Celine Marquet scored her first collegiate goal in the 14th minute when she collected the loose ball from three yards out and put it past Duke goalkeeper Ashley Camano.

In the 27th minute, sophomore Rosario Villagra scored her fourth goal of the season from five yards out on the left side as she put it into the high right corner of the cage after a pass from sophomore Lydia Velzian to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-0 advantage at the half.

Off a penalty corner in the 46th minute, the initial shot taken by freshman Sarah Breen was saved by Duke but redshirt sophomore Katy Fuhrman knocked in the rebound for her first career goal to give ODU a 3-0 lead.

Duke (3-5) scored in the 51st minute on a penalty stroke for their lone goal of the contest as Emmie Le Marchand racked up her fourth goal of the season when she put it past Lady Monarch goalkeeper Marla Petriello.

ODU had the advantage in shots (15-10) and penalty corners (7-4) over Duke. Petriello tallied five saves on the day in goal for the Lady Monarchs while Camano had six for the Blue Devils.

On the season now, 10 different Lady Monarchs have scored a goal and no player has scored more than one goal in any game this season as ODU continues to find different outlets to score.

Old Dominion continues their road swing when they open CAA action on Friday at Hofstra at 3 p.m. The Lady Monarchs then meet No. 7 Northeastern on Sunday in Boston at 1 p.m.
