NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion University's junior forward Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) has been named National Soccer Player of the Week by College Soccer News and CAA Player of the Week.
Hopkinson had a four goal and four assist weekend. He put three into the back of the net and assisted on two others to propel the Monarchs to a 6-0 win over Seton Hall. Hopkinson also scored a goal and contributed an assist in ODU's 3-2 win over Winthrop.
For his efforts he was named the Tournament MVP of the 37th annual Stihl Soccer Classic.
Hopkinson currently leads the CAA in points with 14, goals with five and is tied forthe League lead in assists with four. Senior Chris Harmon is second in the CAA inscoring with nine points and goals with four, while Gideon Asante is fourth in assists with three. Asante also is tied for the CAA lead in game winning goals with two thus far.
Already this season Gideon Asante and Victor Francoz received national and conference honors last week, while Chris Harmon and Jordan LeBlanc garnered similarhonors on Aug. 27th.
ODU is 4-0-0 to date. The Monarchs have a big match coming up this weekend when they travel to Omaha, Nebraska to face eighth ranked and last year's national semifinalist Creighton on Friday, September 14 in the Creighton Soccer Classic. They then square off with Drake on Sunday, September 16, before returning home on Tuesday, Sept. 18th to take on second ranked Maryland at ODU.
