NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (1-0) are in the top twenty in each of the Soccer Polls this week with the highest at No. 11 by SOCCER AMERICA, followed byNo. 13 in COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS, No. 16 by SOCCER TIMES and No. 19 by the NSCAA.ODU travels to No. 28 Central Florida (College Soccer News) for a 7 p.m. match in Orlando Saturday night.
In all, four ODU opponents are currently ranked as well. Maryland, Creighton, Central Florida as well as pre-season opponent Georgetown are ranked in atleast one of the polls.
ODU senior forward Yannick Smith has been named to SOCCER AMERICA'S pre-seasonAll-American squad. Smith already has been named CAA Pre-season Co-Player of the Year, as well as the MAC Hermann Trophy Award list, and was a finalist last year.
Smith led the CAA with 16 goals and 34 points last season as ODU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. He earned first-team All-CAA and All-Region accolades and received third-team All-America honors from the NSCAA and College Soccer News. He ranked 12th nationally in scoring and ninth nationally in goals.
