NORFOLK, Va. - Gideon Asante and Chris Harmon each recorded a goal and an assist while Sidney Rivera also scored to lead Old Dominion University men's soccer to a 3-0 exhibition victory over George Washington Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
George Washington recorded the first shot of the game in the sixth minute from Seth Rudolph but did not record another shot until the 79th minute as ODU controlled play.
The Monarchs got on board in the 11th minute when Ivan Militar sent a pass to Tim Hopkinson who deliver a tap pass to Asante to the right side and drilled a shot to the far post past the GW keeper for the 1-0 lead.
ODU took the 1-0 lead into halftime and in the 59th minute add to the lead as Asante slid a pass to Chris Harmon who fired a shot to the left of the George Washington goalkeeper to put the Monarchs on top 2-0.
Rivera put the finishing touches on the win in the 67th minute as Harmon sent a through pass to Rivera who knocked it past the GW keeper for the final 3-0 margin.
ODU outshot the Colonials 16-3. JP Van Der Merwe and Alejandro Almodovar finished with two saves apiece for GW while Victor Francoz made one save for ODU.
The Monarchs open regular season play on Saturday, Aug. 25 against Navy.
