NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University Men's Tennis head coach Aljosa Piric announced the signing of four student-athletes on Wednesday.
Darrah Glavin, Zvonimir Podvinski, Tim Schweig and Dante Terenzio will join the Monarchs for the 2012-13 season.
"We are very excited about the players coming in. We have an incoming group that's very talented but more importantly we have a group of guys with desire to develop and excel both athletically and academically," Piric said. "They recognize the opportunity that ODU brings and I am certain they will do all they can to reach their individual potential and along the way help us reach our team goals."
Glavin comes to ODU after spending his first season at Memphis and will be a redshirt freshman for the Monarchs. He hails from Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland, and was ranked as high as No. 1 in Ireland and as high as No. 3 at the 18 and under bracket. He was a two-time national finalist at the U12 and U16 levels.
A native of Zagreb, Croatia, Podvinski was ranked No. 5 at the U18 division in Croatia. He won the ITA Grade 5 Junior Tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the singles part of the tournament.
Schweig is from Ridderkerk, The Netherlands, and was ranked in the top-15 in the Netherlands' U18 rankings. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2010 nationals as well as the ITF4 Maaseik and the ITF4 Almere.
Terenzio is a transfer from Louisville and will have two years of eligibility with the Monarchs. A native of Stamford, Conn., Terenzio was the top ranked player in Connecticut coming out of high school and the reigning state champion. He reached the finals of the USTA (United States Tennis Association) U16 spring championships and the National Open.
