Old Dominion and Max Media Announce New Radio Deal

July 19, 2012

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University athletic director Dr. Wood Selig and Max Media general manager Dave Paulus announced a new contract today that extends the broadcast coverage of all ODU football, men's and women's basketball games, selected baseball games and coaches shows through 2015-16.

Football, men's and women's basketball games and coaches shows will be broadcast on Max Media owned station ESPN 94.1 FM while select baseball games will air on WGH-AM Star 1310. In addition, a new weekly one hour Old Dominion athletic update show will be featured every Saturday morning on ESPN 94.1 from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m., beginning August 25.

"I am most grateful to Dave Paulus and his staff at Max Media and our multi-media partner ODU Sports Properties for putting together an exciting new contract that provides 12 month exposure for Monarch teams in Hampton Roads" said Selig. "We value our long partnership with ESPN radio as well as the visibility the station and radio group provides for our total athletic program."

ESPN Radio 94.1 FM is a 40,000 watt station with a signal strength that stretches to the Northern Neck and Eastern Shore, west to Richmond and south to northeastern North Carolina. The new contract is for two years (2012-13 and 2013-14) with two options years that can extend the deal through 2015-16. Old Dominion women's basketball games have been aired on Max Media stations since 1990, followed by the broadcast of men's basketball games in 1993, football in 2009 and baseball games in the spring of 2012.

"Everyone at Max Media shares my excitement with this new long term agreement with Old Dominion University," added Paulus. "ESPN 94.1 and the university have become synonymous when it comes to college athletics radio coverage and we announce this news today with great pride. ODU's upcoming move to the Conference USA means Division I performance from both the university and of course 94.1 ESPN. We're thrilled with the partnership".

The Bud Light Bobby Wilder football show, featuring the Monarch head coach, will air Thursday nights for 13 weeks from 7-8 p.m., at Buffalo Wild Wings in downtown Norfolk, beginning Aug. 30, while the Blaine Taylor and Karen Barefoot basketball call in shows will continue to air on Monday and Tuesday respectively, for 17 weeks during the season. Max Media will continue to feature ODU administrators and coaches in segments throughout its afternoon drive time show hosted by Nick Cattles, as well as provide Monarch Minute updates throughout the week. The Saturday morning show, hosted by Doug Ripley, will feature interviews and features on all Monarch sports, plus updates on conference races and Monarch news.

ODU Sports Properties, a division of CBS Sports Properties, will continue to sell the advertising inventory in the broadcasts, as well as direct the formats and the talent.
