NORFOLK, Va. - In their final week of spring team practice, junior midfielder Danielle Clutter and assistant coach Rich Sutton discuss how the offseason is going for Old Dominion University Field Hockey.
"We pretty much continued doing work from where we left off in the fall," said Sutton. "Our structure worked well last offseason so we are just refining it a bit and changed it in some areas.
The team has worked on end of game situations, basic skills and positions skills while also breaking into smaller game type situations.
Individual workouts begin next week where small groups and skill groups will be broken into and coached on a more one-on-one basis.
"A few of last season's senior have come back to practice with the team as several try to continue on with their careers. Their leadership has been key on the field for our younger players. We are losing four key pieces from on the field and so now several of the underclassmen are in position to step up as starters or to gain larger amounts of playing time."
