NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's tennis improved to 9-2 on the year with a convincing 5-2 victory over Towson Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
"This was the best performance by the team this year. It was our third CAA match and they knew what this meant," head coach Dominic Manilla said. "They felt the importance of the match and just took control of the moment."
ODU started the match breezing through doubles as Aleksandra Mitrovska and Nika Khmolovska won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Diana Ivanova and Melissa Esnal Olguin were 8-4 winners at No. 1.
Mitrovska cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over Aandria Carr to improve to 11-0 in her freshman season.
Ivanova defeated Nani Lizana 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 to move to 10-1 on the season.
Esnal Olguin was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 3 while Khmolovska was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 4. After winning the first set 6-1, Khmolovska was down 4-1 in the second set before rallying for the win.
Towson recorded their only win on the courts at No. 5 singles as Andrea Samlin defeated Faith Atiso 6-0, 6-1.
