NORFOLK, Va. - Diana Ivanova and Aleksandra Mitrovska knocked off the No. 33 ranked doubles team of Harvard but it would not be enough as Old Dominion fell to Harvard 4-1 Sunday afternoon. ODU lost to Columbia 4-0 on Saturday.
The Lady Monarchs came out strong Sunday as Mitrovska and Ivanova dominated Hiedko Tachibana and Kristin Norton 8-1 to win No. 1 doubles. ODU clinched the doubles point when Melissa Esnal Olguin and Juliana Pires defeated Kelly Whelan and Hannah Morrill in a thrilling 9-8 (8-6) victory at No. 2 doubles.
Harvard took control in singles winning the first three spots while Whelan clinched the win at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
At No. 4 singles, Pires dropped the first set to Natalie Blosser 6-3, but won the second set 6-3 and was up 5-2 in the third set when the match was stopped.
Number five singles was also a tight match as Sam Gridley won a hard fought first set 7-6 over Nika Khmolovska when the match was stopped.
