HEAD COACH MIKE CAREY
Opening Statement:
I thought that we came out and hit some shots, needless to say. For us it was great to score 37 and 31 in a half, but I was a little disappointed in our second half defense and we gave up way too many offensive rebounds. Overall, I am pretty proud of them and they came and fought hard for forty minutes.
On Bench's Scoring:
First of all, Averee Fields came off of the bench and scored. That is what she does the best, and as a freshman in her first NCAA game she stepped up and took some shots with confidence and did a good job. Taylor Palmer is our shooter and I was kidding her after the game because she only played 25 minutes and shot 16 times but if she played 40 minutes she would have shot 32 times. That is what she does though; she is a great player and hit a really big shot for us.
Jess Harlee on the double-double and defensive play:
She plays with so much heart and the team feeds off of her. She sacrifices herself every play and she knows her role on the court. She has the discipline to take good shots, move the ball, and open up some other people. She is also our stopper when we need to make a stop.
Anything on tape about Chassidy struggling against bigger players:
They are a great team. They were more physical on the boards then us today and that did not happen to us that much this year. Jess will play her role every time and when she puts her hand up to come out I better take her out because she uses all of her energy each time out.
Players:
Junior Center Aysa Bussie
On Good Team Defensive Play:
Yes, with the guards but we let them get too many offensive rebounds and second chances. We got into some foul trouble, but I think our guards played very well.
Sophomore Guard Taylor Palmer
On scoring 8 points in a row and taking over the scoring role:
It was just how the game went. I was not thinking about it too much, and if I was open I took the shot.
On hitting a big 3:
It was good. I think we needed that shot as momentum. We played hard for the rest of the game afterwards.
Sophomore Forward Jess Harlee
Guarding Chassidy Fussell:
The main thing I tried to do was to just not let her catch the ball. I stayed on her if she drove during the course of the game I just did not let her post up.
On play of the Bench:
They played great off of the bench and hit some big shots and drove the ball well. Averee is a freshman and for her to come and play so well was great.
