NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University coed sailing team hosts their first event of the 2012 spring season this weekend. It is the final scrimmage and tune-up for ODU before full competition begins this first weekend of March.
The ODU sailors are tentatively set to launch on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. into the Elizabeth River in Lamberts Point until approximately 4:30 p.m. depending on weather conditions. On Sunday, the teams will be out from approximately 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All fans, friends, students and faculty/staff are encouraged to come out and watch at any time throughout the weekend to get their first glimpse of the Monarchs this spring season.
Last weekend, ODU placed 12th at the Charleston Intersectional in the season-opening event. Competing for the Monarchs in the A-Division was junior skipper Collin Leon and freshman crew Colin Voigt, who finished in 13th place with 93 points. In the B-Divsion race, sophomore skipper Mark Miedama and sophomore crew Alexa Cavalieri took 14th with 118 points.
Next weekend, ODU will split to three different events as the Charleston Women's Intersectional takes places along with the Graham Hall Team Race in Annapolis, Md. In a conference minor event, the ODU Open will also take place on March 3-4.
