NORFOLK, Va.- Old Dominion University women's tennis got off to a slow start but came back to defeat Longwood 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Starting off at doubles Diana Ivanova with Melissa Esnal Olguin topped Malin Allgurin with Allison Shulman 8-3. Aleksandra Mitrovska and Nika Khmolovska battled Marta Pinyal and Sarah Moomau but lost 8-6. Longwood won the third doubles match by default.
Down 1-0 in team score, Esnal Olguin started off singles play by quickly eliminating Shulman, 6-1, 6-1.
Ivanova followed suite and downed Minyol at No.1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Lady Monarchs.
Nika Khmolovska secured a win at No. 5 singles by defeating Portsmouth native Hannah Hill, and Mitrovska clinched the match for the Lady Monarchs by defeating Allgurin, 6-4, 7-6.
Faith Atiso lost a pro set at No.6 singles to Nicole Parker, 8-4.
Ivanova and Mitrovska are 17-1 combined on the season and Esnal Olguin picked up her 5th win on the year.
The Lady Monarchs will have some time off before returning to action March 3 against Hampton, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
