NORFOLK, VA-- Chris Cooper scored 14 points and hauled down nine rebounds to lead the Monarchs of ODU to a 68-44 CAA victory over William and Mary Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd at the Constant Center.
The Monarchs improved to 14-9 overall and 9-2 in the CAA while theTribe falls to 4-19 overall and 2-9 in the CAA. The Monarchs completed the five-game stretch in 11 days with a 4-1 record, including two of three on the road.
Sophomore Donte Hill scored 11 points with four assists and three steals, whileTrian Iliadis added 11 points and six rebounds on the day.
ODU jumped out to a 12-0 lead with 16:20 left in the first half, but the Tribefought back to tie the game at 20-20 with 9:58 left on a three-pointer by QuinnMcDowell. The Tribe hit seven three-pointers in the first half.
After a Chris Cooper free throw and a layup by Hill,ODU went back up, 25-20 and then went on a 20-8 roll to finish the half with a 40-28 lead.
In the second half, the Monarchs started the half with a 10-4 run and led 50-32 with13:58 left in the half. The Monarchs lead would exxpand to as much as 27, 65-38In all, ODU held the Tribe to just 16 points in the second half.
The Tribe hit only one trey in nine attempts in the second half. For the game,the Monarchs defense held W&M to .400 (16-40) shooting from the floor, while ODUshot .519 (28-54) from the field.
The Monarchs dominated the boards, 35-21 as Cooper led with nine, followed by Iliadis and Richard Ross with six each. ODU also only turned the ball over 11 times.Ten of the 11 Monarchs scored today.
Quinn McDowell led the tribe with 15 points, followed by Matt Rum with nine.
This week, ODU went 3-0 defeating Northeastern, UNCW and William and Mary. TheMonarchs defense gave up an average of 49.7 points per game and senior ChrisCooper led the way with a 13.7 point per game average and 10.0 rebound average,followed by Trian Iliadis at 11.0 points per game. As a team, ODU shot .436 fromthe floor and opponents shot.365.
