NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion's senior swimmer Arni Arnason (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season it was announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
Arnason led the Monarchs to multiple meet wins last week, including defeating American (211-80) and conference rival George Mason (159.50-138.50). ODU also defeated New York University and Montclair State in a tri-meet.
The senior had a trio of victories against NYU and Montclair State, capturing the 50 freestyle in 20.99, the 100 freestyle in 46.23 and the 100 breaststroke in 55.31.
The next day, Arnason had another impressive performance, posting three individual wins in the quad-meet with American, Army and George Mason. The Iceland native took home the 100 breaststroke in 55.45 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.43. Arnason also took home the 200 freestyle in 1:39.07. He also was a part of the winning 200 medley relay team that took home first place in 1:33.30.
Arnason's name still remains among the nation's top times in the 100 & 200 breaststroke nationally. His 100 breaststroke time of 53.32 at the Nike Cup back in November ranks him eighth among all Division I swimmers in the event, while his 200 breaststroke finish at November's Nike Cup in a time of 1:58.32 is still currently 15th in the country among Division I competitors.
The Monarch and Lady Monarch swimming & diving teams will host their final dual meet of the 2011-12 season hosting Towson on January 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool in the Student Recreation Center. Arnason will be among the six seniors honored prior to the meet at 12:45 p.m., which also includes teammate Birkir Jonsson on the men's side and Kelsey Thompson, Madeline Stiles, Erla Haraldsdottir, and Emma Forbes on the women's side.
