ODU Swimming Competes at Winter Nationals

ATLANTA, Ga. - Several members of the Old Dominion men's and women's swimming team were in action this past weekend at the 2011 AT&T Winter Nationals that was held this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

Four Monarchs and Lady Monarchs reached finals action with the top performance coming from senior Erla Haraldsdottir in the 100 breaststroke and reaching the B Finals.

Haraldsdottir, who competed in the 100 breaststroke at the 2011 NCAA Championships in the spring and was the Nike Cup champion in the event last month, finished 16th overall in a time of 1:11.07.

Three other Old Dominion swimmers qualified for the C finals, including three appearances by three-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week senior Arni Arnason. Arnason, who last month captured the 100 and 200 breaststroke titles Nike Cup and took second in the 50 freestyle, placed 25th in the 50 freestyle (23.06), 25th in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.74), and 30th in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.99) at nationals.

Joining Arnason in the 50 free C Finals field was last year's CAA Champion and conference Rookie of the Year sophomore Sidni Hoxha. Hoxha finished behind Arnason with a time of 23.35 and placed 28th.

Junior Kimberley Rashleigh also appeared in the C Finals taking 24th in the 400 individual medley clocking in with a time of 4:55.12.

In the preliminaries, Rashleigh also competed in the 200 individual medley (2:20.06), with Arnason and Hoxha also appeared in the 100 freestyle with times of 51.50 and 51.90 respectively. Haraldsdottir was also in the prelims of the 200 breaststroke (2:40.07).

Other Monarchs at nationals were Jason Brame and Daniel Camozzo who both participated in two events. Brame swam in the prelims of the 400 individual medley (4:48.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.86), while Camozzo swam in the 400 freestyle (4:05.3) and 200 freestyle (1:55.61)

Additionally, Jason Haigh also competed in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.86) and Jessica Hubert was in action in the 200 butterfly (2:21.99).

The ODU swimming & diving teams will return to action during their winter training trip in Fort Myers, Florida in late December/early January.
