NORFOLK, Va. - NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's basketball led the entire way to defeat North Carolina A&T 71-58 Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Center.
Tia Lewis led the way for the Lady Monarchs, grabbing her fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
ODU built its lead up to 23 on a jumper from Lewis but North Carolina A&T battled back to cut the lead down to 10 with three minutes to play, but Shakeva Richards hit a layup to push the lead back to 12 and the Aggies never got the lead under 10.
NC A&T followed with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 51-39 on a layup from King. The Aggies cut the lead to 11 on a three-pointer from Amber Calvin but ODU pushed the lead back to 14 on a jumper from Lewis and a foul shot from Myeisha Hall.
The Aggies knocked the lead back to 10 with three minutes remaining but Lewis added two free throws to push the lead back to 12 at 66-54.
Tia Lewis staked ODU to an early lead, scoring the first seven Lady Monarch points, as ODU jumped out to a 7-4 lead.
ODU stretched the lead to 16-6 with an 11-2 run, as Myeisha Hall hit a layup and a pair of free throws and Mairi Buchan also added four points during the stretch.
The Aggies knocked the lead down to eight on a jumper from Kierra Dunnington but ODU pushed the lead right back to double-digits with a pair of free throws from Jackie Cook and short jumper from Shakeva Richards to move the lead to 26-14.
ODU took control in the final minutes of the half, going on an 11-3 run to end the half and take a 38-19 halftime lead.
Lewis was 8-of-11 from the field and 8-of-12 from the foul line to grab her game-high 24 points. Ashley Betz-White chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Amber Calvin led the Aggies with 18 points while Tracy King had 14.
ODU is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 21 when they host UMES at 11:30 a.m.--
