FAIRFAX, Va. - Taleia Moton scored a career-high 33 points to lift George Mason to a 85-69 win Sunday afternoon at the Patriot Center.
George Mason improves to 6-1 on the year and 1-0 in the CAA while ODU drops to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Mason pushed its lead to 16 on a jumper from Moton and ODU would get no closer the rest of the way.
Tia Lewis scored the first eight points of the second half for ODU while Moton scored 7-of-9 for Mason. Mason pushed its lead to 16 midway through the half but Mairi Buchan and Shakeva Richards hit a pair of jumpers and JoNiquia Guilford knocked down two free throws to make the lead 62-50.
Mason followed with a 10-run to take a 20-point lead with eight minutes remaining.
ODU grabbed an 8-7 lead on a Jackie Cook jumper but Mason countered with a 10-0 run, six points coming from Taleia Moton, to take a 17-8 lead. A long jumper from the top of the key from Mairi Buchan stopped the run.
The Lady Monarchs cut the lead to 19-14 on a jumper from Richards and layup by Myeisha Hall, but George Mason rallied with an 12-1 spurt to take a 31-15 advantage.
Mason pushed the lead to as much as 17, but ODU fought back to cut the halftime deficit to 10. Cook hit a pair of jumper, while Richards and Lewis each hit shots to knock down the halftime lead to 40-30.
Lewis led the way for ODU with 20 points and nine rebounds, her seventh straight game in double-figures. Jackie Cook poured in a career-high 17 points for the Lady Monarchs.
Rahneeka Saunders had 17 points for Mason while Janaa Pickar chipped in with 16.
ODU returns home on Wednesday, Dec. 7 when they host Wofford at 7 p.m.
