Lady Monarchs Fall in Overtime at George Washington, 58-52.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - George Washington went on an 8-0 run in overtime and Old Dominion University women's basketball could not catch up as the Colonials escaped with an 58-52 overtime win over the Lady Monarchs Wednesday night in Washington D.C.

Ashley Betz-White hit a layup with 59 seconds left to give ODU a 42-40 lead but Sara Mostafa tied the score at 42 on a put back with 24 seconds left.

In overtime, GW scored first but Tia Lewis hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 46. The Lady Monarchs took the lead at 50-49 on a layup by Lewis but George Washington took a 52-50 lead on a three-pointer from Tara Booker and would never relinquish the lead.

With eight minutes left in the second half, ODU pushed its lead to nine at 40-31 on a jumper from Tia Lewis, but George Washington followed with a 9-0 run with five points from Danni Jackson, and a layup from Chakecia Miller to tie the score at 40.

GW scored the first points out of the break, but ODU broke out on an 11-1 run behind three-pointers from JoNiquia Guilford and Tiffany Minor and a layup from Lewis. Guilford added a layup and a foul shot as well to make the score 35-25.

George Washington got off to the early start, taking an 8-4 lead on a three-pointer from Danni Jackson. ODU pulled to within 10-8 with 12 minutes remaining on a jumper from Lewis and tied the score on a layup from Lewis.

ODU took its first lead of the game at the three minute mark when Minor hit a three-pointer to give ODU a 17-16 lead. Tara Booker gave GW the lead right back with a three but Lewis connected on a three-point play and Guilford hit two short jumpers to give ODU a 24-22 halftime edge.

Tia Lewis and JoNiquia Guilford had double-doubles for ODU while Tara Booker led GW with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Lewis finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, finishing her sixth-straight game in double-figures. Guilford added 12 points and a career-best 14 boards.

Booker led GW with 17 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while Danni Jackson also had 17 points. Chakecia Miller chipped in 14 points.

ODU plays its first game in December on Sunday when they travel to George Mason to open CAA play.
