Arni Arnason, Yesim Giresunlu Earn CAA Swimmers of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion's swimmers senior Arni Arnason and freshman Yesim Giresunlu were both named CAA Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the conference office.

Arnason, who has now won CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week three times this season, posted three NCAA "B" cut times and won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in last weekend's Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. In the 50 freestyle he took second in a NCAA "B" cut time of 20.13. The senior posted his next NCAA "B" cut time in the 100 breaststroke, topping his own-school record with a new time of 53.32, breaking his old record of 53.48 in 2009. In the third day of action Arnason won the 200 breaststroke title with a NCAA "B" performance of 1:57.86. The Monarchs finished sixth in the event.

Giresunlu, who earned the Lady Monarchs' first weekly award from the conference, set a new ODU record in the 1650 freestyle event at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. The freshman smashed the old record of 16:49.12 by Jamie D'Agostino in 1999 by setting a new mark of 16:45.98. In the 500 freestyle the Istanbul, Turkey native timed out in 4:54.68 and in the 200 freestyle she finished 15th with a time of 1:54.51. The Lady Monarchs took sixth in the event.

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool at the US National Championships in Atlanta, December 2nd - 4th and will be at George Washington on December 3rd.
