CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- In Day One of Nike Cup action at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, the Old Dominion swimming teams had five Monarchs and Lady Monarchs reach the day's finals.

The Old Dominion women's swimming team had three Lady Monarchs compete in the day one finals. The Lady Monarchs currently sit in sixth place with 88.5 points through 12 events. Host North Carolina leads Nike Cup action with 435 points, followed by Duke with 172 points, and South Carolina in third with 135 points.

Emma Forbes tied for seventh in the 50 freestyle registering a time of 23.94 and placing her name sixth in the Lady Monarch record books.

In the distance event, Yesim Giresunlu also put her name into the record books. Her time of 4:54.68 in the 500 freestyle was the third fastest time by a Lady Monarch.

Rounding out the Lady Monarch finals appearances in day one action was Kimberley Rashleigh in the 200 individual medley, taking eighth in a time of 2:04.12

There was four Lady Monarchs swimming in the evening's consolation finals.

Erla Haraldsdottir took 10th overall and clocked in with a NCAA "B" cut time of 2:01.17 in the 200 individual medley.

Three Lady Monarchs swam in the consolation final of the 500 freestyle. Danielle Naylor took 12th (4:58.54), Savannah Bowers placed 15th (5:01.82), and Laura Cempel came in 16th (5:01.82). Bowers' time of 5:01.82 was the ninth fastest Lady Monarch time in the 500 free, while Cempel's time of 5:02.11 in the preliminaries puts her seventh all-time.

In the relays, the Lady Monarchs' 400 medley relay team of Kimberley Rashleigh, Erla Haraldsdottir, Ashley Luchsinger, and Emma Forbes swam to a fifth place time of 3:46.41.

The Old Dominion men's swimming team sits in sixth place overall through the cup's first 12 events with 80 points. Host North Carolina leads all teams with 334 points with the Naval Academy in second with 207 points, and Duke in third with 173 points.

The Monarch squad had a pair of Monarch finalists in the 50 freestyle.

Arni Arnason, a two-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week this fall, took second in the event. Arnason missed the top time by just .10 seconds, but collected a NCAA "B" cut time of 20.13.

Also in the finals of the 50 free was Sidni Hoxha, the 2011 CAA Champion in the event, who took fifth in a time of 20.38.

Daniel Camozzo made an appearance in the consolation finals for the Monarchs in the 500 freestyle. The ODU record holder who placed second at last year's CAA Championships swam to a time of 4:34.00

In the relays on the men's side, Andrew Crockett, Arni Arnason, Daniel Camozzo, and Sidni Hoxha put their names into the ODU records books. The Monarchs' 400 medley relay squad claimed fourth place in a time of 3:20.77, the second fastest time in the ODU logs.

Action continues tomorrow at the Nike Cup with the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs competing in the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 800 freestyle relay.
