NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (6-2/2-1 CAA) host the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (3-7/1-3) Saturday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. Game time is 7 p.m.for this International Student Night. The first 250 fans get drawstring bags.
The Monarchs have won two straight matches, including a 4-0 win Wednesday night against VCU.
The Monarchs rank 21st nationally by the NSCAA and 25th by Soccer America.
Junior Yannick Smith leads the Monarchs attack with eight goals, one assist for17 total points. Sophomores Tim Hopkinson and Gideon Asante are next with four goalsand four assists each for 12 points.
In the net, junior Victor Francoz and the ODU defense have four shutouts. Francozgoals against average is 0.90.
"Our defense has been exceptional. Against VCU, we broke up a lot of chances.We have a good group on defense, we are jelling and lets hope that continues."- Head Coach Alan Dawson.
THE SERIES: ODU leads, 15-6-1. The Monarchs won last year's match, 1-0 on an AlexVaughan first half goal.
The Seahawks are led in scoring by freshman Jacob Vancompernolle with two goals andan assist for five points. Junior forward Thomas Driver and Etienne Boulanger eachhave two goals. Senior Daniel Roberts leads the squad with four assists.
After Saturday, ODU hits the road again for games against William and Mary on Oct. 12 and Towson on Oct 15.
